RUG SIZE GUIDE

Find the perfect rug size for your space, and place it with confidence

Living Room

Choosing the right rug size and placement is just as important as picking the pattern or colour. With the right rug — thoughtfully sized and placed — your space feels larger, cleaner, and more balanced.

Large Living Room

  • Recommended sizes: 8×10 ft, 9×12 ft.
  • Rule: All furniture legs (sofa, chairs) should sit on the rug. This anchors your seating zone and makes the room feel cohesive.
  • Tip: Leave 8–10 inches of visible floor around the rug for an elegant frame.
    .

Medium Living Room

  • Recommended sizes: 6×9 ft, 8×10 ft.
  • Rule: Front legs of the sofa + all legs of the coffee table rest on the rug.
  • Tip: If you have a large dining or open-plan space, use a runner or place a slightly smaller rug under the seating area only.

Small Living Room / Apartment

  • Recommended sizes: 5×8 ft, 6×9 ft.
  • Rule: Rug should extend beyond the coffee table, and at least reach the front of the sofa, to avoid the “floating rug” effect.
  • Tip: Use lighter colours, low‐pile texture, and simpler patterns to keep the space visually open.

Bedroom

Choosing the right rug size and placement is just as important as picking the pattern or colour. With the right rug — thoughtfully sized and placed — your space feels larger, cleaner, and more balanced.

King-Size Bed

  • Recommended sizes: 8×10 ft, 9×12 ft.
  • Rule: Place the rug under the bed so it extends at least 2–3 ft beyond the sides and foot.
  • Tip: For a luxurious look, let the rug peek out equally on both sides and at the foot; for a compact look, pull the rug only from the foot side.

Queen-Size Bed

  • Recommended sizes: 6×9 ft, 8×10 ft.
  • Rule: The rug can be placed two-thirds under the bed and extend outwards.
  • Tip: Keep a 12–18 inch border of visible flooring around for balance.

Kids/Guest Room

  • Recommended sizes: 5×8 ft, Round 6 ft.
  • Rule: Use the rug either fully under the bed or as a play zone in front of the bed.
  • Tip: Go for flat-weave or low-pile for easy cleaning; choose fun colours or patterns.

Dining Room

The rug should be large enough so that all chair legs remain on the rug even when pulled out.

4-Seater Table

  • Recommended size: 6×9 ft.
  • Tip: Leave ~24-30 inches of rug around all sides of the table for the chairs.

6-Seater Table

  • Recommended size: 8×10 ft.
  • Tip: Choose materials that resist spills and stains, especially in Indian homes.

8-Seater Table

  • Recommended size: 9×12 ft.
  • Tip: The rug anchors the full dining setup — match the size accordingly.
